Student Visas – 500
In addition to its developed economy and opportunity for employment, Australia is internationally recognised as one of the best countries to begin or continue your education as an international student. If you are thinking of studying in Australia it is important to secure a student visa prior to arrival. The subclass 500 visa is the Department of Home Affair’s primary visa for international students.
In order to make a successful application for a student visa, you must ensure that you have a valid Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from a registered education or training organisation in Australia for the course you wish to study.
In addition you must have adequate means to financially support yourself for the duration of your study. This is generally a minimum of ~ $20,000 AUD per year of study, with additional costs if you with to include family in your visa application.
A key criteria for making a successful student visa application is to persuade the Department of Home Affairs that you are a Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE). This criteria requires that you provide a statement, and evidence where necessary, that you have a genuine intention to study for the purposes of furthering your career opportunities, and that the student visa is not being used to otherwise extend your stay in Australia indefinitely. This component of the application can be particularly challenging for many applicants, particularly those who have held multiple student visas, or who have changed courses throughout their time in Australia.
